HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PERFORMING STAND UP?

7 Years

DESCRIBE YOUR MATERIAL/STYLE OF PERFORMING TO SOMEONE WHO HASN’T SEEN YOU

I don’t know. I’ve never been good at answering this question. You’d have to come see me and tell me before I could ever tell you. Another comic once said I “have a natural indignant authority onstage that’s undeniably funny”. I’m still not sure what that means.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST EXCITING THING, PERSONALLY, THIS YEAR, ABOUT STAND UP?

I did a very very small tour earlier this year with Casey Paulsen where I got to headline some small rooms in the Midwest. We were in Sioux Falls, SD for 2 days and it was probably some of the most fun I had doing stand up. I love travelling, especially to do comedy.

CURRENTLY, WHAT’S THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU ARE WORKING TO OVERCOME, IN STAND UP COMEDY?

This sounds cocky and it kind of is. But being a big fish in a little pond. I’ve done most of what I can do in St. Louis but I’m still hungry for more. It’s weird to think I’m a veteran of the scene but I’ve been here for a while.

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST COMEDY GOAL FOR THE NEXT YEAR?

I would like to move. I have done so much growing and learning here as a person and a comedian but I think it’s time for me to move on to a bigger scene. If you’re wealthy, reading this, and want to support a talented young black artist give me some money so I can move to New York or something.

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU WISH YOU’D KNOWN BEFORE YOU STARTED PERFORMING?

Don’t drink so much. It doesn’t make you funnier.

IF YOU WERE A BEVERAGE, WHAT WOULD YOU BE?

One of those organic teas with natural flavors and no added sugar. I know this is really specific but I couldn’t tell you why.

PICK ANY HORROR MOVIE. HOW WOULD YOU SURVIVE?

It Follows. I would’ve just kept driving until I ran off a bridge or something. That isn’t technically surviving but I got to go out on my own terms.

DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO PROMOTE?

I’m headlining Impolite Company at The Crack Fox on October 11.
