We’re spending the next month or so profiling the comics in the St. Louis scene. We’ll be covering a range of comics from seasoned pros, to open mic comics booking their first shows. Our goal is to give you a glimpse at who you can expect to see, no matter where you experience live comedy.
As well as being a stand up comic, Yale Hollander produces a number of local shows, including one that takes place on a moving trolley.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PERFORMING STAND UP?
DESCRIBE YOUR MATERIAL/STYLE OF PERFORMING TO SOMEONE WHO HASN’T SEEN YOU
I’m a bit scattered in my approach. I’ve got a few one-liners here and there but I usually dwell in the world of the narrative bits. I love misdirection!
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST EXCITING THING, PERSONALLY, THIS YEAR, ABOUT STAND UP?
Getting an unexpected invite to do a pop-in set on a Friday night Funny Bone show and also being asked to host two different shows within the same week at Helium. Every invitation to a show is a thrill for me, but when the pros come calling, it’s an extra boost.
CURRENTLY, WHAT’S THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU ARE WORKING TO OVERCOME, IN STAND UP COMEDY?
Sometimes I get a little ahead of myself and roll out bits that aren’t quite ready. I need to discipline myself to save the newer stuff for the open mics before I roll them out on showcases.
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST COMEDY GOAL FOR THE NEXT YEAR?
I would love a club weekend, and, of course, I want to maintain and grow my own stable of produced shows. (Editor’s Note: After this writing, it was announced that Yale will be hosting a weekend at the all new Back Door Comedy & Events in O’Fallon, Missouri!)
WHAT IS ONE THING YOU WISH YOU’D KNOWN BEFORE YOU STARTED PERFORMING?
To be honest, I’ve enjoyed the process of learning and discovering and am glad I went into it as raw as I did.
IF YOU WERE A BEVERAGE, WHAT WOULD YOU BE?
Coffee. Because coffee.
PICK ANY HORROR MOVIE. HOW WOULD YOU SURVIVE?
Leonard Part 6. I would have slipped Cosby a mickey and had him chemically castrated.
DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO PROMOTE?
Oct 10 – We Are Live’s Happiest Hour at Sophie’s Artist Lounge
Oct 11 – Laugh Tracks on the Loop Trolley
Oct 25 – Arguments & Grievances at Brennan’s Work and Leisure
