We’re spending the next month or so profiling the comics in the St. Louis scene. We’ll be covering a range of comics from seasoned pros, to open mic comics booking their first shows. Our goal is to give you a glimpse at who you can expect to see, no matter where you experience live comedy.
Tiel Pearce has been a regular presence on the St. Louis open mic scene for ten years. With an encyclopedic knowledge of comedy, you can find him everywhere from the Funny Bone to the Improv Shop and all points in between.
SOCIAL MEDIA INFORMATION
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PERFORMING STAND UP?
DESCRIBE YOUR MATERIAL/STYLE OF PERFORMING TO SOMEONE WHO HASN’T SEEN YOU
An insane combination of Andy Kaufman, Steve Martin, and Steven Wright.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST EXCITING THING, PERSONALLY, THIS YEAR, ABOUT STAND UP?
Two well known comics said they wanted to work with me one day. It gives me something to work towards. I don’t know if they were being sincere or not, but I’m counting it as a win.
CURRENTLY, WHAT’S THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU ARE WORKING TO OVERCOME, IN STAND UP COMEDY?
Making my act mainstream enough to get club work, while still staying true to my real self on stage.
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST COMEDY GOAL FOR THE NEXT YEAR?
Host for a headliner at a comedy club.
WHAT IS ONE THING YOU WISH YOU’D KNOWN BEFORE YOU STARTED PERFORMING?
That people like me. It seems like a downer. Before I started I didn’t know if people “got” me. Not just my comedy, but my personality.
IF YOU WERE A BEVERAGE, WHAT WOULD YOU BE?
Black coffee, because I may not be the most exciting, but soon you’ll see I’m the best thing for you.
PICK ANY HORROR MOVIE. HOW WOULD YOU SURVIVE?
I’ve seen Friday the 13th. I would’ve just not gone to Camp Crystal Lake. The second I heard the Jason Voorhees story, I’d insist on staying home. I’d survive simply on my superhuman resistance to going outside.
DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO PROMOTE?
On the first Saturdays of the month (unless otherwise noted), I have Saturday Evening Cabarette, at the Improv Shop. 10:00 pm. On the Mainstage. Go to
www.theimprovshop.com for more info.
Editor’s Note: After submitting this, Tiel learned that he was selected to host for Dana Gould at Helium Comedy November 7-9! Go see him!
Check back tomorrow as we continue to highlight the area’s working comics.
