The King & Me at The Improv Shop
November 10 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Following runs from NYC to LA, St. Louis native Jamie Cummings returns as “The King” in his solo comedy about a struggling Elvis impersonator, presented one night only by the Flyover Comedy Festival.
In his tenth year of competition, the fourth-ranked Elvis impersonator in the greater Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area has told himself, “It’s now or never.” The only things standing between him and TCB (takin’ care of business) are his rival, his Mama, and his talent.
Complete with singing and dancing!
Written by and starring Jamie Cummings (Comedy Central, MTV).
“THIS TRIBUTE TO THOSE WHO PAY TRIBUTE TO ELVIS IS SMART, GENUINE, AND HAS A HUGE HEART.
Cummings’ obvious affection for the King and his latter-day cult comes through in every lip curl and hip waggle. Go, laugh, and find yourself saying, ‘Thankyaverymuch.'”
(NY Times, Rolling Stone)
“JAMIE CUMMINGS IS EXCITING TO WATCH!
This show is original and super funny. I could watch him dance with a broom for days.”
(Writer – Impractical Jokers, Billy On the Street)
“DON’T MISS JAMIE CUMMINGS’ ONE-MAN SHOW.
It’s funny, inventive, and very touching, and above all highlights his multi-talented self as comedic writer and boundless performer.”
Betsy Salamon Suffott
(Producer – Accomplice, Off-Broadway)
JAMIE CUMMINGS’ THE KING AND ME DOES THAT RARE THING WE LONG FOR IN SOLO PERFORMANCE:
inspires pathos and real laughs at the same rate, making both exponentially stronger. Jamie himself is a highly disciplined, laser-specific comedian, and his ability to keep an audience in the palm of his hand keeps us rooting for his loser hero.
(Peoples Improv Theater [PIT], NYC)
“THE KING & ME IS NOT YOUR EVERYDAY ELVIS IMPERSONATOR STORY!
Jamie Cummings has created a very unique solo comedy show that delves into restrained obsession, professional rivalry, human kindness, and everything Elvis. While Cummings is the only one on stage, he magically populates the story with a range of fully developed characters who we never actually see. His take on this original character who’s smitten with both Elvis and an elementary school teacher is CLEVER, WITTY, WARM, AND PACKED WITH ENOUGH ‘ELVIS’ TO MAKE YOU RUN OUT AND ORDER A PEANUT BUTTER, BANANA, AND BACON SANDWICH.”
Peter Michael Marino
(Producer – SOLOCOM; Gary Busey’s One-Man Hamlet)
Jamie Cummings is a New York City-based actor, writer, director, and teacher. Jamie will also be improvising at the Flyover Comedy Festival with Nappy Time for Cookie (Jamie Cummings & Mandy Schmieder) alongside his wife Mandy (Inside Amy Schumer).
