There’s a great comedy scene in Springfield, Missouri and their comics are no strangers to the stages of St. Louis. In a few cases, we’ve managed to steal some of these delightful people. Among them is Matt Barnes. Matt performs regularly on the local showcases at Helium Comedy and at the various indie shows. He’s never played basketball for the Golden State Warriors.

Tell us about your worst experience performing in front of a crowd.
Getting heckled at Nick’s Pub open mic (R.I.P.) was my worst experience performing in front of a crowd.
Tell us about your best experience performing in front of a crowd.
I once opened for Donald Glover at the Plaster Student Union at Missouri State University, after winning the school’s annual comedy competition that year.
What do you enjoy most about being part of the St. Louis comedy scene?
There’s a lot of variety in the comics and shows on the scene.
Pizza vs. Tacos? You can only pick one. The one you don’t pick disappears from reality. Which do you pick, and why?
Pizza. Because taco pizza is good. Pizza tacos are a bad idea.
If I gave you a time machine that allowed you to visit yourself the day before you decided to start performing, what would you tell yourself?
Don’t do it. A drug problem would be so much easier to maintain than doing comedy.
Anything else you want to say?
I just watched The Young Pope. It’s okay, but also exhausting.
