August has a number of great shows coming up. We’ll try and highlight a few that we’re looking forward to over the next few days.
Joe Murray can regularly be found featuring at The Funny Bone and performing on other shows around town. His answer to the Tacos v. Pizza question demonstrates a self-reliance that no other comic we’ve profiled has shown. His new show, “Run the Joes” premieres tonight at The Improv Shop.
One of the problems a lot of comedy scenes deal with is the tension that exists between the local comedy clubs and the comics who put on DIY shows around their city. St. Louis is lucky enough to have three clubs comics can get work in, and who aren’t antagonistic towards indy shows. Not only that, all three have regular open mics and showcases that only feature local talent.
The biggest comedy news in the city is that Louis CK is performing at The Scottrade Center Thursday night. Sure, that’s cool, but you’ll have to sit with 20,000 other people in a venue where you’ll barely be able to see him without the aid of a giant video screen. It’s like being in your living room, with more expensive beer and nachos.
