We’re spending the next month or so profiling the comics in the St. Louis scene. We’ll be covering a range of comics from seasoned pros, to open mic comics booking their first shows. Our goal is to give you a glimpse at who you can expect to see, no matter where you experience live comedy.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PERFORMING STAND UP?
DESCRIBE YOUR MATERIAL/STYLE OF PERFORMING TO SOMEONE WHO HASN’T SEEN YOU
One way or another, everything I do is feminist humor. I focus on my own trials and tribulations as a working mother and middle-aged woman more generally.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST EXCITING THING, PERSONALLY, THIS YEAR, ABOUT STAND UP?
Being in “The Future is Female” was a highlight! The show filled the venue to the point of reaching the fire code, and the energy was electric. I loved being part of a lineup of women all doing completely different things from each other.
CURRENTLY, WHAT’S THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU ARE WORKING TO OVERCOME, IN STAND UP COMEDY?
Most of my stories don’t really loan themselves to punchlines every 15 seconds, and so I have to trim them down to their essentials to get at what is funny. I admire David Sedaris for his ability to tell long stories and keep the audience enrapt the whole time.
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST COMEDY GOAL FOR THE NEXT YEAR?
My biggest goal is to write a greater amount of new material and to nurture some of the material I have written but rarely performed.
WHAT IS ONE THING YOU WISH YOU’D KNOWN BEFORE YOU STARTED PERFORMING?
I wish I had known how hard it would be to relax and slow down. I didn’t understand the timing of just letting people laugh instead of talking over them. Timing is still something that’s a work-in-progress.
IF YOU WERE A BEVERAGE, WHAT WOULD YOU BE?
Chocolate milkshake. Delicious but it takes effort.
PICK ANY HORROR MOVIE. HOW WOULD YOU SURVIVE?
In Jaws, I would have stayed away from the ocean to begin with…too much sand in my hair!
DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO PROMOTE?
I’m performing on Impolite Company at The Crack Fox on November 15.
Check back tomorrow as we continue to highlight the area’s working comics.
